How Cute Is This?

Kids from the Glover School here in Marblehead helped celebrate Veterans Day at the town's Senior Center. What a wonderful way to thank our surviving Veterans for their service.

Have you hugged YOUR Verteran today? Give a veteran you know a call and say "Thanks".

Where did the time go!?!?

Can you believe it's already time to turn the clocks back, put on an extra layer, get out the ice scraper, and turn on the heated seat in the car? Whoa - there are Christmas decorations up at the Mall already!! The Farmer's Markets are shrinking in the rear view mirror and we're heading straight for the holiday season - like it or not - so take a deep breath, put on a smile, and get ready to SHOP.
We hope to see many of our regular customers at some events we will be attending (look to the right for details) - come and support these fundraising events and grab a fresh bottle of our Basil Vinaigrette. Don't forget that our Ellie's Going Green Chocolate Florentine Cookies make a wonderful hostess gift if you're heading to be with family or friends for the holidays.

Cherly's Chicken with Ellie's Basil Vinaigrette

"Yum,yum. I bought your Basil Vinaigrette at the Salem Farmers Market and just made a really tasty and simple chicken dish using it.  Here's what I did:  Cut two chicken breasts in large chunks and stir-fry them on medium high heat in olive oil and garlic until nice and brown. Lower the heat a bit and let them cook through. Remove the chicken to a serving dish - season with salt and pepper.  De-glaze the pan by adding a little white wine (lemon juice would also work) and stir to loosen all of the pieces stuck to the bottom of the pan.  Add about  1/4 cup of Ellie's Basil Vinaigrette and continue to stir until it is warm.  Pour this sauce over the chicken and serve.  I put a little fresh chopped basil on top, but sliced lemons or some fresh raspberries would go well also." Cheryl M.

Thanks, Cheryl! Always happy to hear how our friends are using our product.

ENJOY!

15th Annual Haunted Happenings Parade TOMORROW

So we've caught up on laundry, organized closets, and definitely had ENOUGH rain. If the forecasters are right (insert crossed fingers here) tomorrow should be a perfect fall day.

Here's an idea - come down to Front Street in Salem, Mass. and shop at the Salem Farmer's Market. Things you can expect at the market tomorrow: cucumbers, scallions, pumpkins, beets, Rosario/European eggplant, amaranth, pea tendrils, Chinese broccoli, Bok choy, summer cauliflower, green leaf lettuce, Swiss chard, Oak leaf lettuce, Kale, parsnips, potatoes, corn, peppers, zucchini, fresh eggs, salad turnips, fennel, carrots, pies, honey, cider donuts, and more!
Wondering what kind of apples might be available?
  • Macintosh
  • Macoun
  • Cortland
  • Ginger Gold
  • Gala
  • Honey Crisp
You might decide to stay for the Parade which includes 6 marching bands, 57 entries, and an equestrian group. A very festive time for all!!

Enjoy!

SUMMER IN A BOTTLE

Posted: September 29th, 2010 | Author: JR | Filed under: Ellie's Going Green, Marblehead, Marblehead Farmer's Market, Marketplace, Salem Farmer's Market | Tags: , , , , , | No Comments » One of the things we miss most about summer is fresh basil from the garden. Yes, we made pesto and put it in the freezer in anticipation of the January blues, but we wish we could somehow bottle that wonderful flavor. And that’s exactly what four enterprising women did just over a year ago, creating Ellie’s Basil Vinaigrette.
Actually, Ellie Monnin, a chef, had been making the vinaigrette for many years, but last July, she got together with Darnell Vipperman, Barbara Bane, and Heidi Jarcho to turn it into a business. All four partners are Marblehead residents, and the product is currently made in the town’s St. Andrew’s Church kitchen.
The dressing is not only delicious, it’s sugar free, cholesterol free (it’s made with extra virgin olive oil), and gluten free. It’s also highly versatile—it can be used to dip bread or artichokes, as a dressing for potato salad, or a marinade for fish, chicken, or beef. It’s also good with hot pasta, as dressing for pasta salad, and drizzled over vegetables. We had it last night over chopped tomatoes and cubed fresh mozzarella for an easy, extremely tasty side dish.
Thus far, the vinaigrette has only been available at the Salem and Marblehead farmer’s markets. But Monnin and her partners are looking for a commercial kitchen where they can produce larger quantities and hope to have it in local stores this winter. Once that’s accomplished, they plan to expand into other products (they mentioned cookies), so stay tuned.

Welcome Back!

If you weren't able to make it to the Marblehead Farmer's Market this past Saturday, you missed out on some really awesome, local stuff. The strawberries were plentiful due to the unseasonably warm weather last month, and there were plenty of flowers and hanging baskets that were just gushing with blossoms.

It was so great seeing all of our old friends who couldn't wait to get a fresh bottle of our Basil Vinaigrette, and we met some new customers who sampled and couldn't help but say "Wow! This is really good!" We hope you all will find time to come and support the Marblehead Farmer's Market this season - we really are lucky to have such a gem in our beautiful town.  Enjoy!

Fundraiser for "Super Markie" - PLEASE JOIN US!

We hope that you will all join us for a fundraiser to help the family of 4 year old Marcos Santana, a local boy who recently lost his battle against Neuroblastoma. While his mother, Angela, still struggles to support Marcos's three young siblings, she was left with staggering medical bills that are not covered by insurance.
All proceeds from the raffle, as well as a portion of the table fees, will go directly to help this family financially while they mourn and grieve over the loss of Marcos. Ellie's Going Green, along with many of your favorite craft vendors, will be at Vittori Rocci Post in Beverly, MA on Saturday, Feb.27th from 11:00 am to 2:30 pm. Please come for this worthwhile cause!
